Introduction to Management

Introduction The workshop examines the obstacles and opportunities facing newly appointed managers. During the workshop delegates will learn how to use a range of core tools and techniques in the areas of people and task management in order for them to effectively manage both themselves and their team.
Target Group Those being considered for promotion to a supervisory position, newly appointed managers, supervisors/managers with no formal training.
Objectives
  • Examined the issues facing newly appointed and junior managers and understood the difference between "Managing" and "Doing"
  • Identified their own management and leadership styles and their ability to match their style to team performance
  • Explored the concepts of setting objectives and effective delegation
  • Demonstrated an understanding of the theory and practices involved in conducting staff appraisals.
  • Understood the concepts relating to motivating both individuals and the team and how to maximise the use of staff counseling to avoid demotivating influences
  • Practiced the techniques needed to run effective meetings
  • Conducted a series exercises using a set of core communication skills which are fundamental to achieving success in their management roles
  • Effectively managing your own and other’s time
Time Scale 2 day workshop
Methodology A highly participative and pragmatic workshop involving delegates in formal sessions, working groups, personal audits and skills practice sessions to enable them to explore and gain a complete understanding of their role in their company.
